It was subsequently a part of the soundtrack of two movies, ‘Knockaround Guys’ and ‘Margot at the Wedding.’ The popular song was also recorded by Keith Urban.Īfter recording his fourth CD, Forbert, in 1984, didn’t release another album for four years due to a squabble with his recording company. That song, Forbert shared, was written about a girl from Forbert’s hometown. Americana music, Forbert explained, is a blending of folk, country and rock ‘n’ roll, popularized by artists such as Gram Parsons and the Band.įorbert’s big break came in 1979, with the release of his second album, ‘Jackrabbit Slim.’ A single from that record, ‘Romeo’s Tune,’ became a smash hit, ultimately selling a half-million copies. I just like keeping busy.’įorbert’s musical style is described as folk/Americana, with the folk music, he pointed out, being impressed upon him by people like Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and Van Morrison. If I’m home for two weeks,’ Forbert said, ‘I get the itch to go on the road again. ‘I truly enjoy traveling, meeting my fans and making new friends. ‘I’m touring all the time,’ Forbert said. He started playing guitar at the age of 10 and began writing songs when he was 17, with approximately 250 songs to his credit to date.Īfter spending a few years in New York City, Forbert moved to Nashville in 1985, where he still resides, though he admits he isn’t there very often due to his heavy touring schedule. His live shows were enthusiastically received when he appeared at the CBGB Club in New York City, in front of a crowd that was customarily there to see New Wave and punk rock acts.įorbert knew what he wanted to do early on in life. Fortunately for local fans, Forbert will be appearing Saturday, July 13, at the Bryn Mawr Gazebo Park as part of the Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts.įorbert’s popularity can easily be traced to his distinctive raspy, weathered voice, his lyrical brilliance and his many memorable songs that are full of insight and honesty.įorbert’s widespread appeal was apparent right from the beginning. On a recent phone interview from Manchester, England, Forbert said he is enjoying himself immensely, adding that he especially enjoys his trips to the U.K., where he has made many friends and has lots of fans.
